Overview

O’Rourke Family Estate (OFE) is a 300-acre property with panoramic views of surrounding orchards, vineyards, rolling mountains, and the glistening water of Okanagan Lake. Inspired by Europe’s most famous wineries, the property features 110 acres of vines, 300 meters of winding tunnels, and 12,000 square feet of cave space to store and age wines.  In addition to OFE, the O’Rourke portfolio includes Peak Cellars. Located on a 7-acre property in Lake Country, and is home to our Goldie Road Vineyard. Wine isn’t the only thing the property produces; the half-acre organic vegetable garden and two greenhouses supply the highest quality fruits and vegetables for the Garden Bistro.

 

Role type:  Contract, full-time (minimum 30 hours/week) with the opportunity to move towards permanent contract)

Reports To: Maître D’ and/or Bar Manager and/or Restaurant Manager


Role Scope: The Bartender plays a vital role in providing an exceptional guest experience by creating and serving craft cocktails, wine, and beer while maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They act as a brand ambassador for the Estate while ensuring that guests enjoy world-class service in alignment with values and standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Service:

  • Prepare and serve a variety of craft cocktails, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages with consistency and quality, while adhering to all legal requirements and company standards.
  • Prepare bar condiments and garnishes as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized bar area, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are stocked, in-date, or freshly prepared for service.
  • Keep track of beverage inventory, report any low stock levels, and assist with ordering supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining the overall ambiance of the lounge and bar area, contributing to a positive guest experience.
  • Maintain knowledge of O’Rourke Family Estate wines and cocktails, as well as seasonal and promotional offerings.
  • Accurately process orders and payments using the POS system, ensuring the proper handling of cash and credit card transactions.
  • Help manage bar sales and contribute to achieving revenue goals.
  • Maintain knowledge of order input for POS system for both restaurant and retail sales as required.
  • Develop costing & profitability metrics for the beverage program, providing those details for the accounting team’s reporting systems as new beverages are created or changes are made to recipes.
  • Bartenders may be scheduled to serve the lounge section:
    • They must know and uphold the fine dining service standards for servers set by O’Rourke Family Estate.
    • The menu offerings may differ for the sections assigned to the bartender: knowledge of these items and how it differs from the other sections is required.

Guest Experience:

  • Provide exceptional customer service by showcasing menu knowledge and attentiveness and creating a welcoming and friendly environment for all guests.
  • Customize beverage recommendations including wine pairings, cocktails, and menu items based on guest preferences.
  • Handle guest inquiries, requests, and complaints promptly and professionally, ensuring high levels of satisfaction.
  • Actively engage with guests to enhance their experience and encourage return visits.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and excellent guest service.
  • Communicate effectively with the management team and other staff to ensure the best possible service and guest experience.
  • Assist in training new staff on bartending duties, product knowledge, and customer service techniques.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of guests by following responsible alcohol service guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, sanitation, and alcohol service protocols in compliance with BC laws and estate policies.
  • Report any incidents or accidents promptly to management, completing any required documentation.
  • Maintain a professional and clean personal appearance including arrival with all uniform requirements.

 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, mixology techniques, and wine knowledge to enhance the guest experience.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions to improve product knowledge and bartending skills.
  • Share insights and feedback with management to continuously improve the guest experience and bar operations.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • At least 2-4 years of bartending experience, ideally in a winery, restaurant, or similar hospitality setting.
  • A passion for wine, mixology, and hospitality to create memorable guest experiences.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with guests and create a positive atmosphere.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of local alcohol regulations and responsible service practices.
  • Ability to handle cash and POS systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, aligning with dress code
  • Holds or is willing to obtain a Serving It Right certification.
  • Strong knowledge of craft cocktails, mixology techniques, and wine service. WSET (or similar) is a plus but not required.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as overtime from time to time.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
