Overview

O’Rourke Family Estate (OFE) is a 300-acre property with panoramic views of surrounding orchards, vineyards, rolling mountains, and the glistening water of Okanagan Lake. Inspired by Europe’s most famous wineries, the property features 110 acres of vines, 300 meters of winding tunnels, and 12,000 square feet of cave space to store and age wines.  In addition to OFE, the O’Rourke portfolio includes Peak Cellars. Located on a 7-acre property in Lake Country, and is home to our Goldie Road Vineyard. Wine isn’t the only thing the property produces; the half-acre organic vegetable garden and two greenhouses supply the highest quality fruits and vegetables for the Garden Bistro.

 

Role type:  Contract, full-time (minimum 30 hours/week with opportunity to move towards permanent contract)

Location: Lake Country, BC

Reports To: Maître D’ and/or Restaurant Manager

 

Role scope: The Expeditor ensures the smooth operation between the kitchen and front-of-house. They are responsible for coordinating the communication between the front-of-house and back-of-house teams and ensuring that dishes are prepared, plated, and delivered to guests in a timely and accurate manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Collaboration:

  • Review and organize incoming orders from servers and bartenders, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
  • Collaborate with the Culinary team to inspect all dishes for presentation, and temperature in adherence to quality standards before sending food to guests.
  • Coordinate with chefs, servers, and Maître D’ to maintain an efficient flow of orders and optimal timing for food delivery.
  • Liaise between the kitchen and dining room to alert kitchen staff of any delays, rushes, or special circumstances to prevent potential bottlenecks in service.
  • Provides a decisive point of contact between the Service and Culinary teams, ensuring that special requests, allergies, and modifications are effectively communicated to the kitchen team.
  • Tracks all special requests and ensures that key information is passed along to both culinary and restaurant management teams.
  • All open and closing duties as assigned.

 

Organization and Cleanliness:

  • Ensure that all service tools and condiments are stocked, clean, and ready. This includes: mis-en-place trays, napkins, to-go containers, all condiments & dispensers, and coffee and tea services.
  • Some food preparation duties in coordination with the culinary team, for example slicing bread, and garnishing plates for the final expedition.
  • Barista support services to the Servers: help prepare coffee and tea services as directed by servers.
  • Polish cutlery and glassware.
  • Continually seek information about organizational menus, wine industry trends, winemaking practices, wine club memberships, and events across the entire organization.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety policies and procedures outlined in the Health and Safety Program.
  • Ensure accuracy for all to-go orders.
  • Report any unsatisfied guest to a Manager or Supervisor.
  • Maintain a professional and clean personal appearance including arrival with all uniform requirements.

  • Experienced in providing excellent customer service, ideally in a restaurant, winery, or retail environment.
  • Dedicated to providing personalized and professional service to all guests, and to showcasing the local region and estate offerings.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Able to withstand extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions.
  • Able to operate in a high-pressure environment and remain calm and focused in urgent situations.
  • Able to pay strong attention to detail with knowledge of food presentation and quality standards.
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, aligning with dress code
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Holds or is willing to work towards a Serving it Right certification.
  • Holds or is willing to work towards a WHMIS certification.
  • Holds or is willing to work towards holding a First Aid, Level 1 certification.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as overtime from time to time.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
