Overview

O’Rourke Family Estate (OFE) is looking for a Cook to join our incredible team of food lovers. Located in Lake Country, BC, O’Rourke Family Estate (OFE) is a 300-acre property with panoramic views of surrounding orchards, vineyards, rolling mountains and the glistening water of Okanagan Lake. Inspired by Europe’s most famous wineries, the property features 110 acres of vines, 300 meters of winding tunnels and 12,000 square-feet of cave space to store and age wines.  If you have previous restaurant experience, and want to develop a career in the wine industry, then we want to hear from you!

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Cook to join the culinary team at Row 188 Fine Dining Restaurant. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in classical cooking techniques, a deep appreciation for local ingredients, and an interest in how food pairs with fine wines. You will work closely with the Estate Chef and the kitchen team to prepare innovative, high-quality dishes that enhance the exceptional dining experience for our guests.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Food Preparation & Cooking:
    • Prepare and cook high-quality, fine-dining dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s menu and standards.
    • Execute all cooking techniques proficiently, including grilling, sautéing, roasting, and sous-vide.
    • Ensure all dishes are plated with precision, attention to detail, and visual appeal.
    • Maintain consistency in taste, texture, and presentation across all dishes.
  • Menu Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with the Estate Chef and kitchen team to create seasonal menus that pair with the winery's offerings and highlight local and garden ingredients.
    • Contribute ideas for new dishes, specials, and culinary innovations.
  • Kitchen Maintenance:
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Properly store food items and ensure proper food rotation to minimize waste.
    • Assist in maintaining kitchen equipment and ensuring it is in good working order.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work effectively within a team-oriented, fast-paced kitchen environment.
    • Communicate clearly and professionally with fellow cooks, servers, and management.
    • Assist with training junior kitchen staff and culinary interns when needed.
  • Time Management & Organization:
    • Manage multiple orders and tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.
    • Ensure all dishes are delivered to guests in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Maintain a well-organized station for smooth workflow and minimal downtime.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Cook, Line Cook, or similar role in a fine dining or upscale restaurant setting.
  • Experience in working with seasonal, local ingredients and high-end cuisine.
  • Understanding of food preparation techniques, presentation, and fine dining service.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and work collaboratively with the kitchen team.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Food Safe certification and WHMIS
